TaylorMade Spider Tour Series Putters

TaylorMade Spider Tour Series Putters

A closer look at the new Spider Tour Family of Putters for 2023. Could one be making its way into your bag?

Spider is a name renowned for winning. Think back to the dominance of Dustin Johnson's 139 weeks at world #1, Jason Day's Major successes, Sergio Garcia's Augusta triumph, the 2023 Open Champion Brian Harman and even now the world #1 Scottie Scheffler who recently clinched the Masters just weeks after making the switch. All these successes can be attributed to one key piece of equipment - a Spider Putter.

The new line for 2023 sees two of the most popular ever Spider iterations reinstated in the Spider X and Spider Tour, as well as two new creations that could take the golfing world by storm. Here we take a closer look at each style, and ask the question of which Spider Putter could be best for you?

What Putter does Scottie Scheffler use?

It's a question we've all been asking - it's the new TaylorMade Spider Tour X L Neck Golf Putter. Scheffler had consistently topped charts from tee to green but ranked down the field in almost every putting metric throughout 2023. With a change to a Spider Tour X Putter just weeks before the Masters in 2024, his performance on the greens saw his rank skyrocket to 3rd best of the entire field on Augusta's lightning fast greens, a stark contrast to 75th for the 2023 season. Not a bad stat at all.

TaylorMade Spider Tour X L Neck

It's the choice of Scottie Scheffler that has seen his fortunes fundamentally change on the greens. The world #1 opts for the Spider Tour X L Neck with a plumbers style hosel configuration to suit players with a slight arc style putting stroke. The more compact design is designed to offer blade-like feel throughout the stroke while still delivering the same incredible stability and ease of alignment as seen in its slightly larger siblings.

Refined perimeter weighting and the iconic TruePath alignment feature are retained for Tour X for outstanding ease of alignment, as well as the Pure Roll insert for immediate forward roll and outstanding distance control. If its good enough for Scheffler, it certainly has to be one for any golfer's shortlist.

Taylormade Spider Tour

The classic and arguably most famous Spider shape has returned. Spider Tour is the closest relative of the original Monza Spider of the late 2000s, featuring extreme perimeter weighting in the form of 2 weight ports. This weighting system delivers unparalleled levels of forgiveness and stability through impact for incredible consistency and control throughout the stroke, especially on off-centre strikes.

The larger profile and innovative TruePath alignment system combine superbly to offer instantly easier alignment, making Spider Tour one of the most confidence-inspiring putters in the game within 6 feet. The standard #3 style neck is perfect for golfers with a slight arc rotation putting stroke, but for those who have a more straight back-straight through style stroke, the Spider Tour Double Bend is a face-balanced model to cater for this.

What putter does Rory McIlroy use?

Rory McIlroy uses a TaylorMade Spider Tour X Putter. One of the best ball strikers to ever live, but sadly the greens too often seem to be a sticking point for the Northern Irishman. However for the start of 2024, McIlroy debuted a Spider Tour X and has never looked back. With multiple wins to his name and a solid top 3 world ranking that now seems cemented, surely a major is on the cards for Rory this year.

Taylormade Spider Tour X

Spider X first made its way onto the scene back in 2019 and was instantly one of the most used putters across both the European and PGA Tours. The slightly more compact design is said to give a more traditional blade-like feel throughout the stroke while still delivering the same incredible stability and ease of alignment as seen in its slightly larger siblings.

Refined perimeter weighting and the iconic TruePath alignment feature are retained for Tour X for outstanding ease of alignment, as well as the Pure Roll insert for immediate forward roll and outstanding distance control. Once more, the standard #3 style neck is perfect for golfers with a slight arc rotation putting stroke, with the Spider Tour X Double Bend suiting more straight back-straight through style strokes.

Spider Tour V

The first of two new models in the new Spider Tour family, Spider Tour V is a new, ultra compact and streamlined shape designed for pure performance. The smaller profile targets golfers looking for a more simple look at address, while again retaining the hereditary stability and ease of alignment characteristics of the more iconic Spider shapes.

A contrasting black and white TruePath alignment system creates visual contrast to easily help the eyes lock onto the target line more effectively, with perimeter weighting for added consistency on off-centre strikes. Available in the standard short slant neck style for more arc style strokes, or the Spider Tour X Double Bend for straight back-straight through strokes.

Spider Tour Z

The second new face of the Spider Tour family, Spider Tour Z is an incredibly advanced, hybrid style putter that features interchangeable weight ports driven to the front of the head to create a more blade-like feel throughout the stroke, while still retaining the look of a classic Spider. Again a more compact shape compared with Spider Tour, this model should prove extremely popular with players who seek incredibly easy alignment and confidence from short range as well as unmatched distance control on longer putts.

Again sporting the contrasting TruePath alignment feature and perimeter weighting system, Spider Tour Z is certainly an exciting prospect. Available in the standard short slant neck style for more arc style strokes, or the Spider Tour Z Double Bend for straight back-straight through strokes.

With custom options available in Spider Tour and Spider Tour X styles which allow golfers to select from a range of lengths, lie angles, loft angles, grip choices and grip sizes, TaylorMade are ready to get your putting radar-accurate with this new range.
